Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ
Principal of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata and the President of St. Xaviers College (Calcutta) Alumni Association

Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ is the Principal of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata and the President of St. Xaviers College (Calcutta) Alumni Association. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Burdwan. His research interests include International Trade, International Economics and Econometrics.

Rev.Fr. Dominic Savio was felicitated by the West Bengal Governor Dr. C. V. Ananda Bose for his outstanding contribution in the field of higher education in general and also for supporting the cause of true spirit of Journalism.

Fr. Dominic Savio, SJ was the recipient of the “Shiksha Ratna Award 2021,”given by the Government of West Bengal on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. The award is given in recognition of the outstanding service and contribution in the field of education. The Ram Mohan Purashkar was conferred to Dr. Domonic Savio for his exemplary service and contribution in the field of higher education.

Dr Savio has edited book titled, “ Transforming our World Together Towards Sustainable Development” published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing in 2023.

Father has published research papers in journals of international repute.


Fr. Dr. J. Felix Raj, Vice Chancellor, St Xavier’s University

Dr. John Felix Raj, SJ (born 1954) is a Jesuit priest in Kolkata, the City of Joy. He is the Founder Vice-Chancellor and a Professor of Economics of St. Xavier's University, Kolkata. He is the former Rector (1996 to 2002) and Principal (2009 to 2017) of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata.He is also the director of The Goethals Indian Library and Research Society. He was the West Bengal state advisor to All Indian Catholic University Federation from 1989 to 2017.His specialization includes development economics, liberalization, privatization and globalization, public sector, disinvestment, spirituality, leadership skills and training. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.Fr. Felix Raj was appointed member of the West Bengal Education Commission by the Governor of West Bengal to prepare a Road Map / Vision Document for 2020 and 2030 of the state's education sector. He was also the Vice-President and Secretary of the Bengal Economic Association. He is the Founder-President of SNEGAM, an NGO. His initiative, ‘College to Village and Village to College’ at SXC and SXU Kolkata, is a novel effort in transformative education. He is the recipient of thirteen awards including Banga Bibhushan and Siksha Ratna from the Government of West Bengal and Nihil Ultra award from St. Xavier’s College. He has authored and co-authored nine books and has published numerous papers and articles in journals, international and national conferences and newspapers.


During his tenure as the Principal of St, Xavier’s College (2009 – 2017), Father Raj had initiated five educational projects:

  1. A rural campus of St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata in Raghabpur (25 km from the city of Kolkata) in South 24 Parganas, inaugurated in 2014;
  2. Twin hostels – one for boys and the other for girls with 300 and 200 seats each at AJC Bose Road (Beck Bagan) with the support of the alumni, inaugurated on July 5, 2014 by Prof. Suranjan Das, VC of Calcutta University and others;
  3. Restoration and Recommissioning ofthe 150-year-oldAstronomy Observatory and a Solar Observatory at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata on 10th March 2014, dedicated to the memory of Fr. Eugene Lafont, favourite teacher of Acharya Jadish Chandra Bose and father of Modern Science in India.
  4. A campus of St. Xavier's College at St. Lawrence Higher Secondary School premises, Ballygunj, inaugurated in July 2015; it was discontinued from July 2017 in view of the new University; and
  5. A new St. Xavier's College in Asansol, West Bengal, under Asansol Diocese, inaugurated by Dr. Partha Chatterjee, Education Minister in July 2015.

Under Fr. Felix Raj’s committed leadership and democratic governance, St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata secured the highest score of 3.77 CGPA out of 4 in the NAAC accreditation declared on 24 January 2017. His initiative, "College to Village andVillage to College" at St. Xavier's College, Kolkata is a novel effort in transformative education. He has introduced this project at the SXUK.The West Bengal Legislative Assembly unanimously passed the St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata Act, on 15 December, 2016, for setting up the St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata, which became operational from 8 February, 2017. Governor K.N. Tripathi gave his consent to the St. Xavier’s University Act on 16 January, 2017.Father Felix Raj took over as the first Vice-Chancellor of St. Xavier's University, Kolkata, his dream project, with effect from 16 February 2017. The Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, in the presence of Mr. L. N. Mittal and a large number of other dignitaries, inaugurated the University on July 7, 2017.Father Felix Raj is an icon of service before self.


Dr CB Bhattacharya
H. J. Zoffer Chair in Sustainability and Ethics, University of Pittsburgh

CB Bhattacharya is the H.J. Zoffer Chair in Sustainability and Ethics at the Katz Graduate School of Business, University of Pittsburgh. He is a world-renowned expert in business strategy innovation aimed at increasing both business and social value. His research and teaching focuses specifically on how companies can use underleveraged “intangible assets” such as corporate identity, reputation, corporate social responsibility and sustainability to strengthen stakeholder relationships and drive firm market value.Prof. Bhattacharya has published over 100 articles and has over 42,000 citations per Google Scholar. His latest book entitled Small Actions Big Difference: Leveraging Corporate Sustainability to Drive Business and Societal Value was published by Routledge in 2019. He is co-author of the book Leveraging Corporate Responsibility: The Stakeholder Route to Maximizing Business and Social Value and co-editor of the book Global Challenges in Responsible Business, both published by Cambridge University Press. He has served on the Editorial Review Boards and served as Editor of special issues of many leading international publications. Prof. Bhattacharya is the founder of the Center for Sustainable Business at the University of Pittsburgh as well as the ESMT Berlin Sustainable Business Roundtable, a forum with more than 25 multinational companies, aimed at discussing opportunities and challenges in mainstreaming sustainability practices within organizations. In 2007 he started the Stakeholder Marketing Consortium with support from the Aspen Institute.Prof. Bhattacharya is part of a select group of faculty that has been named twice to Business Week’s Outstanding Faculty list. He is one of the top 50 cited marketing scholars per Google Scholar and ranks among the top 1% of marketing scholars in citations per a Stanford University study. He has won several best paper awards, teaching awards and research prizes, including the Steenkamp Award for long term research impact. He was also a finalist for the Aspen Institute’s Faculty Pioneer Award in 2007. In addition, he received the Emory Williams Distinguished Teaching Award in 1995, the highest teaching award at Emory University.He received his PhD in Marketing from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1993, his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management in 1984 and his Bachelors (with Honors in Economics) from St. Stephens College, Delhi in 1982. Before joining ESMT in 2009, he was the Everett W. Lord Distinguished Scholar and Professor of Marketing at the School of Management at Boston University. Before joining Boston University, he was on the faculty at the Goizueta Business School, Emory University. Prior to his PhD, he worked for three years as a Product Manager in Reckitt Benckiser plc. Prof. Bhattacharya has conducted research and consulted for many organizations such as Allianz, AT&T, Bosch, Eli Lilly, ENEL, E. ON, General Mills, Green Mountain Coffee, High Museum of Art, Hitachi Corporation, Procter & Gamble Company, Prudential Bank, Timberland, Unilever and Yum! Brands. As an expert in corporate responsibility and sustainability, he is often interviewed and quoted in publications such as Business Week, BBC, Forbes, Financial Times, Newsweek, The New York Times and The Economist and on TV stations such as Times Now, CBS and PBS. He frequently delivers keynote speeches or brings in his insights as a panellist at company, industry, and academic conferences and conventions.


Dr P D Jose, Professor, Strategy, IIM Bangalore

Professor Jose is a Fellow, IIM Ahmedabad, India. He has done his Post Graduation in Forestry Management (PGDFM), Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM), Bhopal, India and BSc (Physics and Computers), Institute of Science, Mumbai, India. Professor Jose teaches core courses on strategy and electives on Corporate Environmental Management, Sustainable Enterprises and Understanding Corporate Failures. He has been a visiting faculty at Cardiff Business School, IIM Kozhikode, and Gothenburg School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg. Professor Jose was a Fulbright Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, and Kenan-Flagler Business School, North Carolina during 1999-2000. He also visited the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, as a research scholar on a UNDP/GoI fellowship. He was also an ESRC Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Business Relationships, Accountability, Sustainability and Society (BRASS) at Cardiff University during 2005-06, and again in 2008. Professor Jose is a member of the ICAI Accounting Research Foundation’s Committee to suggest a suitable framework for Sustainability Reporting in India. He is also on the advisory group for GRI Focal Point in India.



Dr S Chandrasekhar
Professor, Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research

A large proportion of Indians are engaged in cultivation or working in unincorporated enterprises. His ongoing research seeks to understand the extent of dynamism of these two sectors in improving incomes in rural and urban India. He also works on the issues of delocalization of jobs and how this has led to mobile living (migration, and long daily commutes). He was one of the principal investigators of the initiative to Strengthen, Harmonize, Research and Migration in Indian Context (SHRAMIC). He is an alumnus of Delhi School of Economics and The Pennsylvania State University. He has a Ph.D. in Economics. Since August 2004, He have been a faculty member at IGIDR, an advanced research institute established and fully funded by the Reserve Bank of India. He was appointed Dean of Student Affairs at IGIDR for a two-year term beginning October 2017. He was also a Member of Board of Management, IGIDR from Jan 2010 - Dec 2011. His teaching interests overlap with his research. At IGIDR, he teaches Development Economics, Econometrics, Indian Economy and Structural Transformation. He has coordinated or taught as part of the in-service training programme for officers from Indian Economic Service, Indian Statistical Service, and Reserve Bank of India. I also taught economics at the undergraduate level in Pennsylvania State University. He is active in public policy. He was a member of the Advisory Committee, NABARD All India Financial Inclusion Survey. He was also member of the Working Group to Study the Impact of Migration on Housing, Infrastructure and Livelihood, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India. The working group submitted its report in 2017. His Research Interests lies in Income Dynamics in Rural & Urban India; Structural Transformation; Urbanization; Mobility & Labour Market Outcomes; Education Skills & Employability and his Teaching Interests lies in Big Data and Machine Learning for Economists, Development Economics; Econometrics; Indian Economy; Introduction to Python for Economists; Structural Transformation.



Dr Runa Sarkar, Professor with the Economics Group and Coordinator, Centre for Development and Environment Policy at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta

Runa Sarkar is a Professor with the Economics Group and Coordinator, Centre for Development and Environment Policy at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. She has also served as Faculty Member on the Board of Governors, Dean (Academic) and Chairperson (PGPEX) at IIM Calcutta. Prior to this, she taught at IIT Kanpur. Her interests lie in sustainable development where business interests are in consonance with environmental and social interests. She serves as an independent director on the boards of Bandhan Financial Holdings Ltd. and Basix Consulting and Technology Services Ltd. and as a jury member for the Excellence in Sustainability Steelie Award of the World Steel Association.

In addition to authoring several journal and conference papers she has edited the India Infrastructure Report (IIR) 2010 and IIR 2009 and authored and edited several books on Business, Environment and Sustainability. Her most recent work is an edited volume titled The Role of Coal in a Sustainable Energy Mix for India: a Wide Angle View published by Routledge.
